Focus, Focus, Focus - Getting Sharp Photos

Focus is when the photo is sharp and recognizable, at least the important part of your photo.  There are times when we intentionally want to blur a background (that will be a topic for another day).  Getting your photo sharp is simple when you take these simple steps.

1)   Most advanced point and shoot cameras allow you to focus and then recompose your scene. First decide what you want in focus and where you want that object to be in your final photo.  For the above picture, I wanted the man reading the newspaper to be in focus.

2)    Once you have decided the most important object in your photo, place them in the center of your viewfinder and press your shutter button halfway (this is where some of the point and shoot cameras will not let you do this step).   This is allowing your camera to focus on this point.

3)     Keeping the shutter pressed down halfway, you can now recompose your photo.  In the above photo I did not want the man to be in the center of the photo but on the side, so with the shutter pressed halfway down I recomposed to include the horse.

4)     After recomposing the photo the way you want it --- press the shutter completely down. Do not lift and press, simply continue to press the shutter all the way down.

Go out and take a Picture!

Remember to have fun!

Happy Shooting.
